Determination of skin type

The determination of the skin type is the starting step in the selection of suitable cosmetics and beauty treatments. Properly defined type of complexion, proper cosmetics and way of care allows us to keep our skin looking young and healthy longer and improve our well-being.

How to correctly determine the type of complexion?

To do this, you should check how the skin of our face behaves:

  • after washing with soap and water
  • before the evening make-up remover and after using cosmetic milk
  • after using oily cream

We should also know how the skin reacts to temperature changes and adverse weather conditions (wind, sun, dry air, air conditioning). By analyzing the answers, we can most likely determine the type of complexion.

There are four basic types of complexion:

Normal

It is an ideal type of complexion that occurs practically only in children before puberty. Adults with this type of complexion are real lucky: their skin is perfectly soft, smooth, with a healthy color, without discoloration. After applying soapy water, there are no negative sensations such as tightening or redness. After a whole day it is optimally moisturized and greased, does not shine. Make-up remover does not cause discomfort and deterioration of the skin condition – it is fresh and smooth. In addition, it tolerates greasy care creams well. It reacts normally to temperature changes and adverse weather conditions. Eczema, if they appear, is occasionally and isolated.

Dry

It requires special care and care as it ages the fastest. The reason for this is an insufficient number of sebaceous glands, which produce too little natural lipid layer, protecting the skin from moisture loss. For this reason, it quickly loses elasticity, becoming a matte skin, with a network of fine wrinkles. Washing with soap and water does not serve it – there is an unpleasant feeling of tightening on the skin of the whole face. Also after a whole day it is dry and peeled, after applying cosmetic milk quickly it “shoved” remaining smooth only for a while. Only the use of oily cream makes it well moisturized and in good condition. Temperature change, wind, frost, sun, air conditioning cause a rapid loss of water, which is manifested by a burning sensation, the skin is red and begins to peel. Due to the reduced activity of the sebaceous glands, with this type of skin, eczema is unlikely to appear.

Oily skin

Due to excessive activity of the sebaceous glands, it shines excessively all the time (both after washing with soap and water and after make-up remover with the use of milk). The use of oily cream causes discomfort. Besides, there are enlarged pores, the skin tends to frequent and numerous breakouts, as well as acne. It is also a thicker skin than, for example, dry, characterized by earthy and gray color. It is reassuring, however, that she has long been young, without wrinkles. Unfavorable weather conditions and temperature changes are not dangerous for her, only after exposure to the sun, an increased seborrhea can appear and more breakouts appear.

Mixed

One of the most common types of complexion, difficult to care for. It is characterized by the presence of more than one type of complexion on the skin of the face: it is usually dry skin on the temples and cheeks, while oily on the forehead, nose and chin (so-called T-zone). Therefore, the behavior of the skin in individual parts of the face is characteristic of the skin types concerned.

In addition, we also distinguish sensitive, mature, capillary, acne-prone skin, which can accompany any of the above-mentioned types.

SENSITIVE SKIN

It is characterized by reduced tolerance to environmental factors (cold, hot, sudden temperature changes, polluted air, tobacco smoke). Hypersensitivity may also be the result of frequent and prolonged topical use of preparations. In the case of sensitive skin, we are faced with frequent discomfort, typical care activities, such as washing, make-up remover, cause unpleasant sensations of burning, the skin is often reddened and irritated.

VASCULAR SKIN

Redness of the skin mainly of the face is characteristic. Such skin in most cases is also sensitive skin, reacts badly to local and general factors. Erythema is due to permanently expanded superficial capillaries (by no means are they cracked, as is usual to be prayed for). Such symptoms appear mainly on the cheeks and nose, but can occur on a larger area, even on the neck and neckline. Most often, the vascular skin is dry or mixed.
